Comentario: La distinción entre “must” y  “have to” es más del inglés británico que del americano.  “Must” (debo) indica deber impuesto por uno mismo “have to” (tener que) un deber impuesto por una norma, o regla externa, en la cual no influye la voluntad de la persona.

WE MUST GET A SAT NAV

Patricia, Eve and Margaret decided to go on a short trip to Lanzarote, an Island to the south of Spain.

When they got to the airport, they rented a car and they drove to the hotel. Eve was driving and Patricia and Margaret were looking at their maps, trying to guide Eve.

‘Eve, you have to turn right at the next corner’, said Patricia.

‘No, Eve, you have turn left not right’, insisted Margaret.

‘What? What do I have to do?’ asked Eve nervously while driving.

‘Eve’, insisted Patricia  ‘you have to turn right.’

Eve, turned right but then she decided to stop at a petrol station.

‘You know what: I must know where I’m driving to so I’m going to ask the way to our hotel in this petrol station.’

Eve asked a tall, dark-haired man who was working as a cashier at the petrol station.

‘Yes, to get to the hotel “Las Palomas” you have to follow this road’ he pointed at a map ‘then at the roundabout turn right and then at the next junction turn left. The hotel is there. Remember’, he insisted, ‘you have to turn right at the roundabout.’

‘Okay, thank you very much’, said Eve and then she got in the car again with her friends.

‘You know what’, said Margaret, ‘we must get a sat nav.’

‘You are right’ said Patricia, ‘we must get a sat nav.

‘But, then we would have to go back to the airport to get the sat nav at the rent a car agency’, said Eve.

‘Yes, we would have to’, said Margaret, ‘but it’s a pretty good idea even if we have to pay more money.’

The three friends got safely to their hotel, unpacked their suitcases, and went back to the airport to get a sat nav. 

When they got back to the hotel, they decided to go for a swim.

Eve said to Patricia

‘You must put a lot of suntan cream on, otherwise you’ll get burnt.’

‘Thank you “mom” for reminding me’, said Patricia, and they all laughed.

DEBEMOS COMPRARNOS UN GPS

Patricia, Eva y Margarita decidieron hacer un viaje de unos días a Lanzarote, una isla al sur de España. 

Cuando llegaron al aeropuerto alquilaron un coche y se dirigieron al hotel.

Eva iba conduciendo y Patricia y Margarita  miraban los mapas para tratar de guiar a Eva.

- Eva, tienes que girar a la derecha en la próxima esquina, dijo Patricia.

- No, Eva, tienes que girar a la izquierda, no a la derecha, insistió Margarita.

 - ¿Qué? ¿Qué tengo que hacer? preguntó Eva nerviosamente mientras conducía.

- Eva -insistió Patricia- tienes que girar a la derecha. - Eva giró a la derecha, pero luego decidió a detenerse en una gasolinera.

- ¿Sabéis qué? Debo saber hacia dónde estoy conduciendo, así que voy a preguntar cómo llegar al hotel en esta gasolinera.

Eva le preguntó a un hombre alto de pelo oscuro que estaba trabajando como cajero en la gasolinera.

- Sí, para ir al hotel "Las Palomas" tiene que seguir este camino - indicó apuntando a un mapa. Luego, en la rotonda, gire a la derecha y luego, en el siguiente cruce, gire a la izquierda. Allí está el hotel. Recuerde - insistió- q ue tiene que girar a la derecha en la rotonda.

- Muy bien, muchas gracias, dijo Eva. Luego subió al coche otra vez con sus amigas.

 - ¿Sabéis qué?, dijo Margaret, debemos conseguir un GPS.

 - Tienes razón, dijo Patricia, debemos conseguir un GPS.

- Pero, entonces tendríamos que volver al aeropuerto para conseguir un GPS en la agencia de alquiler de coches, dijo Eva.

- Sí, tendríamos que volver, dijo Margaret, pero es una muy buena idea, incluso si tenemos que pagar más dinero.

- Las amigas llegaron sanas y salvas al hotel, deshicieron las maletas y regresaron al aeropuerto para coger un GPS. Cuando regresaron al hotel, decidieron ir a nadar.

Eva le dijo a Patricia:

- Debes ponerte una gran cantidad de protector solar o  te quemarás.

- Muchas gracias "mamá" por recordarmelo, dijo Patricia, y todas se rieron.
