The best gift

Sheryl and Darren were thinking of buying a present for their mother, but they didn’t exactly know what. Then Darren came up with an idea.

‘You know , Sheryl, I saw the nicest dress in the shopping centre last Saturday. I think it will be perfect for her.’

‘You’re wrong, Darren. She works from home and I don’t think she is interested in having the most beautiful dress in the world anymore. The best present for her is a new mobile phone; I saw the coolest smart phone in the shopping centre’, said Sheryl.

‘You are wrong, Sheryl. She is not much into technology, in fact, she hates it and she is happy with the simplest phone you can get in the market’, said Darren.

‘Well, what can we buy her then?’ asked Sheryl.

‘I think if it’s not going to be a dress, the most interesting thing for her is a book. She likes reading a lot, said Darren.

‘You are right’, said Sheryl.’ But what kind of book?’  she asked.

‘The most amazing story I’ve ever read, is about dinosaurs’, said Darren.

‘That’s the craziest idea I’ve ever heard. That’s what you like, not what she likes’, shouted Sheryl.

‘But do you agree that books are what she likes the most?’ asked Darren.

‘Yes, it’s true, but the stupidest idea is to think that she is going to like a story about dinosaurs that you like. 

She likes books about cooking, art and photography’, said Sheryl

‘Oh, I’ve got the greatest idea! I know a book she’d like. It isn’t the cheapest book around, but I think we can afford it.  Do you remember that book we saw on the Internet about African Art?’

‘Yes, I do’, said Sheryl. ‘I think you could be right, she’d like that book because it’s one of the best books I’ve ever seen about African Art. Let’s buy it’, said Sheryl.

‘I think it’s going to be the most expensive book I’ve ever bought, but I’m sure it’s worth it,’ said Darren.

‘Yeah, you’re right. I think the easiest way to buy it is to use your credit card’, said Sheryl.

‘Oh, sister, you’re the cleverest woman in the whole world. Why don’t we use yours instead? ‘said Darren sarcastically.

El mejor regalo

Sheryl y Darren estaban pensando en comprar un regalo para su madre, pero no sabían exactamente qué.  A Darren se le ocurrió una idea.

Sabes, Sheryl, vi el vestido  más bonito del centro comercial el sábado pasado. Creo que va a ser perfecto para ella.

Te equivocas, Darren. Ella trabaja desde casa y creo que ya no está interesada en tener el vestido más bonito del mundo. El mejor regalo para ella es un nuevo teléfono móvil, vi el mejor teléfono en el centro comercial, dijo Sheryl.

Te equivocas, Sheryl.  A ella no le gusta nada la tecnología, de hecho, la odia y es feliz con el  teléfono más simple que hay en el mercado, dijo Darren.

Bueno, ¿qué podemos comprarle, entonces? preguntó Sheryl.

Creo que si no va a ser un vestido, lo más interesante para ella es un libro. A ella le gusta mucho leer, dijo Darren.

Tienes razón, dijo Sheryl. Pero, ¿qué tipo de libro? -preguntó ella.

La historia más increíble que jamás he leído. Va sobre dinosaurios, dijo Darren.

¡Esa es la idea más descabellada que jamás he oído! Eso es lo que te gusta, no lo que le gusta a ella ,  exclamó Sheryl.

Pero, ¿estás de acuerdo de que los libros son lo que más le gusta? preguntó Darren.

Sí, es cierto, pero la idea más estúpida es pensar que le va a gustar una historia sobre dinosaurios que te gusta a ti. A ella le gustan los libros de cocina, arte y fotografía, dijo Sheryl.

Oh, ¡tengo una muy buena idea!  Sé de un libro que le gustaría. No es el más barato, pero creo que nos lo podemos permitir. ¿Te acuerdas de ese libro que vimos en el Internet sobre arte africano?

Sí,  dijo Sheryl. Creo que podrías tener razón, le gustaría ese libro porque es uno de los mejores libros que he visto sobre arte africano. Vamos a comprarlo, dijo Sheryl.

Creo que va a ser el libro más caro que he comprado jamás, pero estoy seguro de que vale la pena, dijo Darren.

Sí, tienes razón. Creo que la manera más fácil de comprar es usar tu tarjeta de crédito, dijo Sheryl.

¡Oh, hermana, tú eres la mujer más inteligente de todo el mundo! ¿Por qué no usamos la tuya en lugar de la mía? , dijo Darren sarcásticamente.
